Really liked this one. Definitely had a different feel than the Hex Hall series and exposed us to another side of that world a little more. Great read!
It was really unexciting up until the ending, causing me to want to read the next one. I did, however, like Sophie a fair amount. Overall, I'd say it was all right. Edit: Upon rereading, I will say I definitely enjoyed it more the second time around and am looking forward to reading the next one!
This book was so good! I simply adored it. Having read Maureen Johnson before, I knew that this book would be well-written, but I was still a bit wary because it was a 'paranormal book' and I am usually not a fan of paranormal books. However, this one was simply fantastic! Rory is a Southern girl who has the opportunity to go to boarding school in East End. As she arrives, a copycat Jack the Ripper murder occurs with all of London catching Rippermania. Just like with the original murders in 1888, there is little evidence and few suspects After a near death experience, Rory can see ghosts, including the murderer. Okay, so it may sound like your typical hookey paranormal book, but I promise you it is not. It has Maureen Johnson's humor, and is packed with fascinating plot. One of the traits of a great author is the ability to write in multiple genres and write them well and Maureen Johnson does that. Definitely an auto-recommend.
Meant to Be
This book had all the things I love: London, cute boys, adventures, and literary references. And I loved the ending. I want to read it again to see if I can catch things I didn't catch the first time.
I actually have a lot of mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand, I really enjoyed the adventuring aspect. On the other, I found one character really annoying throughout the novel, and they have barely redeemed themselves in my eyes, though I understand why. That being said, I really did enjoy the book and there were a couple twists that I did not expect. If you like Beautiful Creatures, you will probably enjoy this one.Full review to come on The Book Voyage

Full Review from The Book VoyageDelirium kinda falls into a trap that happens to young adult dystopians You need to build the world that this book is set in, so there may be some sections where that world building is happening and then some action. Sort of a slow-fast, slow-fast pattern. For example, this books starts slow and you're just sitting here reading about this ordinary girl in Portland waiting to be cured of love or the deliria as it is referred to. However, once you get through the entire book, you realize that it starts slow to emphasize that Lena, our protagonist is not born inherently special, as can be the case in ya fiction. Rather, it is the choices she makes that make her extraordinary.Truthfully, Lena annoyed me towards the beginning of the novel. She was just so bland. But then I realized she was trying to keep herself that way because of her rather colorful past. And she feels plain and ordinary throughout the book and she doesn't like it. That's why the love story blossoms so well. Because Alex makes her feel extraordinary. Which is important, because we as people like to feel special and loved, exactly what the government in this novel is trying to get rid of.Truthfully, I did not see the end coming. This novel really ends on a cliffhanger, leading you wondering how the series is going to continue. I'm really wanting to pick up the next one because I want to know like how it continues, though I think I have an idea. I guarantee that this ending will not be what you expect going into the book.Overall, if you like young adult dystopian fiction with just the right amount of romance, this is the one for you.
I'm settling at three stars because I don't know what I think of it as of right now.
I really enjoyed reading this book for class. I'm just not sure what to make of it. Very beautifully written. May reread in a couple years.
Really cute, relaxing, fun read. Love it as a standalone novel, but could see it successfully turning into a series.
